Phlebotomy technicians perform one of the most widely needed duties in healthcare settings - drawing blood from patients. This online course will train you to work as a phlebotomy technician and prepare you for the provisional Certified Phlebotomy Technician Specialist (CPTS) exam offered by the American Education Certification Association (AECA). After earning your provisional certification, you will have six months to complete the clinical skills requirements and convert to full certification. This course also provides the opportunity to complete an on-site externship to help you gain the clinical skills needed to earn full certification through the AECA or National Healthcareer Association (NHA). With full certification, you will be able to perform your duties as a phlebotomy technician in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, diagnostic labs, nursing homes, dialysis centers, and more.
This course includes enrollment with an exam voucher option for either the Certified Phlebotomy Technician Certification Exam and Bloodborne Pathogen Prevention Exam, provided by the American Education Certification Association (AECA) or the Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam, provided by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). The voucher is prepaid access to sit for the certifying exam upon eligibility. However, please research your state's requirements before enrollment to ensure this course is the right fit for you. This course is not suitable for students in California, Nevada, and Washington.
Note: This course offers enrollment with the Lab. The Lab includes the kit, training modules and requires an agreement signed and returned before the equipment is provided.

To take this online course, you should have one of the following: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent, entrance test, or previous healthcare experience. You must also be at least 16 years of age or older to enroll in the Lab Included course. Students under 18 years of age are required to obtain signed parental consent on the Release Agreement for enrollment and acknowledgment of responsibility.
To qualify for the certification exam, a High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Jacqueline Garcia holds a Certified Professional Instructor Certification to teach Phlebotomy Technician Program. Ms. Garcia has served as a subject matter expert for the Phlebotomy textbook. She has also developed curriculum for phlebotomy technician programs for career schools and is actively involved in teaching phlebotomy technician at several career schools. She is an active member of AECA as a Certified Professional in Phlebotomy.
Can I register for courses if I am an international student?

Does this course prepare for a certification?
Yes, you will be prepared to sit for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician Specialist (CPTS) exam, offered by the American Education Certification Association (AECA), and the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam, through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Upon completion, you may choose to receive one voucher for either the (CPTS) or (CPT) Certification exam. If you choose AECA's CPTS exam voucher, you will also receive a voucher for AECA's Bloodborne Pathogen Prevention Exam at no additional cost.
When can I start this course?
This course is open enrollment, so you can register and start the course whenever you are ready. Access to your course can take 24-48 business hours.
How long does it take to complete this course?
After you register, you will receive 6 months to complete the course. The time allotted for completion has been calculated based on the number of course hours.
What if I don't have enough time to complete the course within the time frame provided?
If you are unable to complete the course, contact your Student Advisor to help you work out a suitable completion date. Please note that an extension fee will be charged. If you are funded through a third-party organization, approval may also be required.
What kind of support will I receive?
The course instructor will be available by email to answer any questions you may have and to provide feedback on your performance. Occasionally, your course may be supported by a team of industry experts. You will also be assigned a Student Advisor for academic support.
What happens when I complete the course?
Upon successfully passing the final exam, you will be awarded a certificate of completion from the school or organization that you registered through.
Am I guaranteed a job?
