Blueprint Reading

Success within the manufacturing industry depends upon a worker's ability to accurately read and interpret part and electrical prints.

"Blueprint Reading" provides an overview of skills necessary to understand blueprints, including basic blueprint reading and interpretation, electrical print reading, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

What you will learn

• Read a basic company print and determine the critical features on a part that need measurement.
• Explain common features found in part prints and how to inspect them.
• Read an electrical wire diagram and identify all components located within the electrical circuit from their symbols.
• Explain the symbols commonly used in a GD&T print.
• Explain key GD&T concepts such as bonus tolerance, Rule #1, Rule #2, and various approaches for situating a part within the datum reference frame.
• Explain how to interpret form, profile, orientation, location, and runout tolerances using GD&T.
